We welcome one of our Vice Presidents, a distinguished composer and pianist. He has devised a fascinating and generous programme of interlinked works including his own and those of Haydn. This very special
concert celebrates the 400th anniversary of one of the greatest works in the
history of music. With sparkling solos and vocal acrobatics, it was written on
an ambitious scale, but performed with ten singers and period instruments it is

String Quartet in B flat major Op. 130 with
the “Grosse Fugue” Op. 133 The Irish-based Vanbrugh Quartet has delighted the Club on no less than five previous occasions. We have had many requests for ‘late Beethoven’ and our President, Michael Kennedy, described the Vanbrugh recording of op.130 as ‘magnificent sustained artistry’.

Sonata no. 9 in A major Op. 47 “Kreutzer” Tasmin Little is one of the leading international violinists of today. She is especially admired for her performances of English music and has researched that of Delius. Piers Lane gave us a well-received recital in 1999. Together they have recorded all Delius’ works for this combination.

Quartet no. 2 in A minor Op. 51 no.2 The Club is privileged to host a return visit by one of the world’s great quartets, led by Mikhail Kopelman the former leader of the legendary Borodin Quartet. The concert they gave here in 2007 was an especial delight and their return is greatly to be welcomed.
